Tammye Hight was born in Selmer, Tennessee, in 1980 and attended the Adamsville School System, graduating from Adamsville High School in 1998. While a student at A.H.S., Mrs. Hight was an active participant in both Marching and Symphonic Ensembles and was awarded placement in both the All-West and Tennessee All-State Bands as a clarinetist.
Upon graduation, Mrs. Hight entered Northeast Mississippi Community College, where she participated in multiple N.E.M.C.C. Music Ensembles while earning her Associate Degree. After transferring to the University of Mississippi (Ole Miss) in 2001, she participated in the “Pride of the South” Marching Band and the University of Mississippi Wind Ensemble while completing her Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education in 2003.
Mrs. Hight returned to the University of Mississippi as a Graduate Assistant with the Ole Miss Band program as she pursued her Masters in Music Education, which she completed in 2004. Being married in 2004, Mrs. Hight moved to Ridgeland, Mississippi, with her husband and taught private lessons for many public schools and private academies around the Jackson, Mississippi area.
Returning to North Mississippi in 2006, Mrs. Hight accepted an Assistant Director Position at Ripley High School in Ripley, Mississippi, where she taught for eight years and worked with the R.H.S. Band to win multiple Mississippi AAA High School Band Championships. She also developed a Junior High Band Program in Ripley, MS, that was awarded numerous Superior Ratings in North Mississippi Concert Festivals.
In 2013, Mrs. Hight decided to step away from teaching temporarily to focus her time on her young family. After her children both entered school, she accepted a position at Michie Elementary School to assist in restructuring and building the Michie Elementary School Band Program.
Since beginning her work at Michie Elementary School in 2019, the band program has grown to include three instrumental music ensembles with over thirty students. Through her hard work and dedication, the Michie Elementary School Band Program continues to expand and enjoy successes in musicianship and preparedness for future musical endeavors.
She has long supported the Adamsville High School Band Program and is thrilled to work alongside such talented students following the path set before her by many accomplished and highly respected music educators.
Dustin Hurley was born and raised in McNairy County, and attended the Adamsville Schools throughout his elementary and high school years, graduating from Adamsville High School in 2016. While a student at A.H.S., Mr. Hurley was very active in both the Marching Band and Concert Bands, and participated in many university honor bands. During his time at Adamsville, Mr. Hurley won three state championships, and also went to become the school's first male drum major, where he went to become the First Place Drum Major in the State of Tennessee. He was awarded the John Philip Sousa Band Award and Music Student of the Year.
Upon graduation, Mr. Hurley enrolled at The University of Memphis, where he participated in many U of M ensembles while earning his Bachelor Degree. During his time at the U of M, he was an active member of the Mighty Sound of the South, the university's marching band. He was also a member of many concert ensembles, including the university band, symphonic band, 901 Jazz Band, and the university wind ensemble. As he matured through his collegiate career, he expanded his horizons by performing with different instruments, his favorite being the pipe organ. He completed his student teaching at Adamsville High School under David Stevens and Dr. Tommy Thompson where he worked with the Jr. High and High School Bands. He received his Bachelor Degree in May 2021.
After college, Mr. Hurley went to work at Caterpillar in Corinth, Mississippi where he disassembled various inline engines. While working there, he worked to get his teaching license so he could go back to doing what he loved.
In April of 2023, Mr. Hurley received his teaching license and began searching for a place to start his career. In June, Mr. Hurley accepted a position at Camden Central High School as their Assistant Band Director. During his time at Camden, the Camden Band achieved the highest scores that they have achieved in 10 years. They also earned straight superior ratings at the WTSBOA Concert Festival at U T Martin. He was also the Director of Choirs, where he took many students to various honor choirs.
In May 2024, Mr. Hurley accepted the position of Assistant Director of Bands at Adamsville High School. We are so excited to have him back with us, and look forward to seeing what he can bring to the Adamsville Band!
As a Mcnairy County native, Allison Jones pursued her interest in color guard in 8th grade, later joining the McNairy Central Bobcat Band in high school.
While at MCHS, she served as color guard captain for two years and received the award for Most Outstanding Color Guard three years in a row. She also helped lead the guard to receive 3rd and 2nd place guard during her Junior and Senior years. In her final year of high school, she founded the McNairy County Jr. Guard in an effort to spread opportunities to younger students and prepare them for band in high school.
After high school, she attended the University of Tennessee at Martin to receive her degree in Psychology. After performing with the UTM Aviators Marching Band her freshman year, she later collaborated with the staff at Lexington High School, creating and teaching the guard routine for their 2021-22 field show.
In the summer of 2022, Allison joined the staff at Adamsville High School to assist with the color guard during band camp. Once she graduated with her bachelor’s degree in 2023, she was able to join the staff at AHS as the full time color guard instructor. She is continuing her career with the Cardinals while using her degree to work as a Registered Behavior Technician.
Despite coming from a rival school, Allison is eager to continue working with these students as they develop their skills as performers and individuals!
